- There is a coast on the north side of Crookhaven called cóisín Franncach During the war of 1715 between France and England there was a French warship and an English warship fighting off Kinsale. The English warship was winning. The French warship ran before the English one and took shelter in Crookhaven harbour. There were many men dead on board. The captain landed on that coast and ordered the men to be buried in a field near it After that it was called cóisín Franncach.
When Wolf Tone was sailing from France with a troop ship of guns and soldiers in 1796 one of the ships was wrecked in a place called Dunlough Bay about eight miles from CrookhavenTras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
