In this district, that is, Kanturk, barony of Duhallow, Co. Cork, long ago, people had a lot of proverbs.
If a person did not do good trade at his business, he would be said to be doing as much business as "the blacksmith at Cullen".
Long ago a blacksmith living at Cullen used to give burning coals to St. Lateran who lived near. The Saint started the fire in the morning with the lighting coal. One morning when the Saint came to take it in her skirt, the smith said, "Haven't you a lovely foot". St. Lateran looked at her foot, and her dress went on fire.
