- A hedge school master named Dennehy known locally as "Dennehy Master" taught school about the period 1830-1870. He taught in an outhouse in the lands of Con OLeary Carrigaline, and in a house in the farm now owned by Dan, Con, Hickey Nohoval. Also a man named Hickey taught night-school in Con OLeary's house during a couple of winters between 1875- and 1880. Desmond taught in Rathduane, in a cow-house on Buckleys farm.
Another such school was in Nohoval Upper (Dennehy also about 1870) - in a field owned now by Andy Buckley. Mrs Mary Twomey Inches (88 yrs) still living attended Desmond's school at Rathduane. She says a man named OBrien taught in Balleydaly
School was also taught in an old house in Sheehans land Nohoval - house now used as cow-stable. It was Dennehy a hedge school master that taught there, about 60 years ago. He was probably the same man that taught in the other.Tadhg [?] taught in Hickey's Cowhouse, Mountain - He had only one leg. He rode a donkey.- Faisnéiseoir
