In Fr. Tom's days and in Canon Carmody's the two curates had alternate (?) days with the Parish priest. In this manner:- Canon Carmody went to the Stations every day and celebrated the Station mass on the 1st, 4th, 7th, etc days of the Stations, the Senior Curate celebrated the Mass on the 2nd, 5th, 8,th etc, days while the Junior Curate did so on the 3rd, 6th, 9th etc. This meant that on the Parish Priests day for the Station Mass the accompanying Curate was free to celebrate Mass in the Oratory at the Presbytery, or in the Church or as often happened in some other private house or if the Station holder wished it in the Station house. Officially the Curates duty on such a day was to help at the hearing of Confessions and to visit the infirm of the townlands. That duty performed he was free. The question might be asked "Which Curate accompanied the Parish priest on such days?" Well, the matter was easily settled. On alternate weeks one Curate had to celebrate mass for the Presentation Sisters and the other was the priest for the "Station" work except when the Convent priest's turn came(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
