woman is off her head." The priest went across the road, prayed over the child, and it soon recovered.
That night the priest woke from his sleep, to find the house filled with "Good people". They came down on him in the bed, and were trying to choke him. He put out his hand for his pants, and as fast as he was hitting them with it, they were falling, and would do nothing. He then heard them say, "when we can't get himself, we'll get his horse "Gríosach". They then left the house. On the following morning "Gríosach", was found in a standing position, dead. The horse was full of scars, as if caused by a knife. On the following Sunday, the priest spoke off the altar, at Inchidaly, Banteer, of what had happened, saying that there were two live men in the crowd, and that he thought they'd burn him out of the place, putting down such a lot of bog-deal on the fire. Still these men didn't know, that they were in the priest's house on that night with the Good people.
III Mrs Cronin's mother used to say, that the "Head-less Coach" used to pass through Banteer Village every night on the way to Clonmeen Graveyard. It made noise, as if one of the axles was tearing along the ground. The late owner of "Banteer House", saw it, and said that it was pulled by black horses without heads.
