- There were a few landlords around here Purcells and Leaders and Longfields The landlord that was in Altimira was Wills Purcell. The landlord of Curraghs was Leader. The landlords in Highfort were Sir. John Purcell and R. Purcell. The Purcells were descendants of Sir Philip Percival who fought at the battle of Liscarroll in 1642. The Purcells are still represented around this locality. One of them lives in the neighbourhood of Mallow and owns a little property (chiefly houses) around Liscarroll. His agent Mr. Steepe collects the rents.
Purcell the landlord who lived in Highfort was a notorious man ; a number of men came to rob him one night and it was in through his window they went. According as they were going in he was stabbing them with a knife and the man outside never knew what was going on inside. He killed a couple of them and wounded the rest and one of them is buried in the side of the road to Kanturk. Another one of them was tried and hanged for the raid. This Purcell was known afterward as the Knight of the Knife.- Bailitheoir
