- On St. Stephen's Day a crowd of boys gather together to hunt the wren. The leader carries a branch of holly decked with ribbons. The "wren-boys" call to each house gathering money and singing:-
The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
St. Stephen's day he was caught in the furze

So rise up, my lady, and give us a treat.
Up with the kettle and down with the pan,
Give us our answer and let us be gone. St. Bridgid's day falls on February 2nd On the eve of this feast people tie a rag to the latch of the door. This rag is supposed afterwards to cure a headache "Shrove" is the usual time for people getting married. The people who don't get married during "shrove" are marked with chalk on the Sunday following Shrove Tuesday. This Sunday is called "Chalk Sunday"
