  1. On May Day crosses were made of rushes. People wear palm on their coats and hats on Palm Sunday to commemorate Our Lord's entry into Jerusalem. This palm is blessed by the priest at Mass on Palm Sunday. The blessed palm is placed at the back of a holy picture and it is said that it protects people from storms. Pieces of cloth are put out on St. Brigid's eve and when people get headaches or pains in their backs they wrap these around them.
Holy water is got in the church and it is sprinkled on sick animals or on a cow when she calves. This holy water is blessed on Easter Saturday. People also sprinkle it on themselves when going to bed at night. When a cow is being milked for the first time after calving, the sign of the cross is made under her dug with a blessed candle.
Holly an ivy are used to decorate the house in honour of Christmas. They are put up a few days before Christmas and taken down after Little Xmas Day.
