Boys made tops from reels, first they peared them and made them into the shape of a cone, then they used to drive in a nail as the spear.
Bird Cribs
were made from four laths joined together by four tacks, to make a square, with two cords extending from corner to corner. Small sticks are put in between the cords until it is filled up. It is placed on a bow so as that when the bird pitches on the crib it falls trapping the misadventurous creature beneath.
Snares
were made by plaiting together three strands of snare wire. A running loop was put at one end and a strong cord and peg at the other. The peg is placed in the ground and the wire is left about 4 inches from the ground. The rabbit tries to jump through but he is caught on the loop which has now closed up to choke him.
Doll making
girls also amused themselves by making dolls. They first tied rags together, they then tied a piece of string round the rags to represent the neck. They sewed on beads to represent the eyes, nose, and mouth.
