- In olden times fights occasionally occurred at funerals. They never occurred except when there were two funerals on the same day, in the same churchyard. These fights had their origin in the superstition that the last person buried in a churchyard has, in addition to his other troubles, to carry water to allay the thirst of all those previously buried ther. His or her work is incessant, day and night and in all weather. The superstitious belief is, that much water is wanted, and that the carrier of water, is not relieved from his arduous duties until another funeral takes place. For that reason, if there happened to be two funerals at the same place on the same day, the lively competition as to which should get first(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
