Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Athassel Abbey was built by William De Burgo. It is said that there was an underground passage from Athassel to Cashel. When it was burnt by Cromwell the monks hid beautiful golden ornaments. Some of the soldiers of Cromwell went to go along the passage and found they were blocked and on bright nights a light is to be seen there. Athassel Abbey is built on the bank of the Suir south of the village of Golden.It contains the ruins of an old Abbey and cemetery. There are towers and an arched staircase and it is the remains of a fine structure. The earl of Ruadh or De Burgo as some called him built it. It is said that he died of thirst for refusing a poor man a drink of water. One night he was very thirsty and he called his valet to go to the cellar for wine but the caskets were empty. He sent him to the whiskey caskets and they were also dry and he went to a well and it was dry. He said to himself
