There are two lofts in the house. There is always a bed kept in one loft in which the workman sleeps and the working tools are kept in the other loft. There is a hole for the ashes near the fire. The floor in the kitchen is level with the yard outside and it is made of cement. - The old house I know of is O Connells house which is situated on an outside farm of ours. The walls of this house are made of clay. In this way the walls were made. They wet clay with water and mixed it like cement. They chopped straw through it to keep it together. There were no gables to the houses. The kitchen floor was covered with flags. Inside and opposite the door there is a wall with a hole with glass in it which was left there to look out through.
