  2. Shops were common in olden times in this district. These shops were not very large and did not stock much goods. People had to go to the nearest town to make purchases.
    In olden times buying & selling was sometimes carried on after Mass. Cows, Sheep, Pigs, horses, fowl, potatoes and corn were bought and sold.
    Money was not always given in exchange for goods. Sometimes goods were "bartered". A number of cows might be given in exchange for a horse, or perhaps corn would be exchanged for potatoes. Labour was often given in exchange for goods.
    Certain words were connected with buying and selling. Some of these words are still in use. When a person buys goods
