- The Ward Union Hunt Club transferred their quarters from The Ward to Ashbourne in the year 1854.At that time the master was Peter Alley and the huntsman was Charles Brindley who died in the year 1880 and to whom a monument stands in Draper's field quite near the Nine Mile Stone.His son James who succeeded him as huntsman, lives at present at Millinam near Ratoath.In the year 1887 the Empress of Austria came to Ireland for the hunting and she hunted with the Ward Union Hunt.She gave a pension of thirty pounds a year to Mrs Corrigan, a teacher in Ashbourne because she lined up the school-children on each(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
