  1. Up to eighty years ago the people in this district ate three meals a day.
    First of all breakfast, and it consisted of porridge and buttermilk and oat cake and potatoes, so they were healthy and strong, for, though their food was not very varied, it was wholesome and good.
    Tea was introduced about 1860 and tradition it, that, when evening tea became the fashion the first family to use tea in this district made it in the following manner. They brought the water to boiling point and emptied half of the bag of tea in to the teapot and poured the water on it. They then boiled the tea again and poured the tea out and ate the tea leaves and pretended to like
