- Cromwell landed in Ringsend in the year 1649 and he marched towards Drogheda.I heard from George Finglas that he came through Finglas, Kilshane, Palmerstown, Rathoath, Kilbrew, and Kilmoon on his march to Drogheda.When he came by Kilshane he planted a cannon on a mound opposite the castle and blew it to pieces.But some part of it must have been built up again as a portion of it is still to be seen.At that time there was a convent at Kilrue, but when the nuns heard of Cromwell and all the destruction he had done, they blew it to pieces rather than let Cromwell destroy it, and escaped in an underground passage which led to Kilbrew.When he reached Ratoath(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
