    Writing, Arithmetic, and Grammar. Some Irish was spoken by the master and pupils in school.
    The books used were very small, and the paper was very poor. Writing was done on a slate, because it was hard to get pencils and pens.
    The children sat on stools arranged around a table. A big slate was used for a black-board.
    The teacher remained in the school until he died.

  2. There was a hedge school at the crossroads, at Crowenstown. It was held in the field beside the present school. A master taught in this school. Master Mulligan taught in the hedge school, before he taught in the present school. He was a native, and he lived in his
