- People in my locality have great belief in seeking local cures for their ailments. About three miles from my home on the road from Delvin to Balivor is a stream which divides Co Meath from Westmeath. The water of this stream is supposed to cure people suffering from pains, especially rheumatism and similar ailments commonly referred to as "Pains in the bones".In order that the person gets cured the person who undertakes to get the water from the stream, must take the water from the stream before "sunrise", and the patient if not able to procure the water, must drink the water before sunrise. I knew a woman afflicted with pains who had recourse to this remedy by procuring water out of this stream, but although the necessary formalities were gone through the results were not satisfactory, but in some cases the belief is common that cures have been sought and proved successful. - Celine Bezzano
