  1. There was brick making carried on about thirty years ago in the townland of Derrymore, Killucan. Leavys carried on the factory because they had brick clay on their land.
    About the beginning of April they would start it. They would chop the clay, then wet and temper it with a shovel like making mortar for building.
    Then wheel over and throw it beside a platform, here one or two men with their hands pitched it in round lumps, just enough in each to make a brick, this was called upstriking.
    Another man puts those lumps into oblong shaped moulds, his job was called moulding. Two boys would be engaged carrying the bricks in the moulds to the beds, this was called off bearing.
