- During the Great Famine of 1846-47 thousands of people died of hunger and sickness. This district was much affected by the Famine.Before the great disaster Glascorn was thickly populated. It is said that thirty two families lived in the stretch of country between Coolnahay Bridge and Killahea Bog. There are now only seven families there. When the potatoes failed a great number of people emigrated to England and America but the greater part of them died of hunger at home. It is said that there were families living in Killahea bog and they would do anything to get a bit(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
