  1. Local Cures
There are some very queer cures for certain diseases in this district. There is a woman named Lizzie Nolan who lives in Brannigan and cures warts by rubbing a penny on them. She gives the person she is curing the penny and he has to give it to the first poor person he meets. After about three days the wart will disappear. Another way of curing warts is to rub on them the white juice from the stalk of the dandelion and they will wither away. Still another way of curing warts is to get a black snail, rub him on the wart and tie him to a haw-thorn bush and as he withers the wart will wither as well. There is a man in this town named Jack Mulry who can cure yellow jaundis by taking the bark off a certain tree and boiling it. The liquid is given to the patient every morning until he is better. There is also a boy in this town named John Looney who can cure Ringworm by putting a worm on the Ringworm and leaving it there for about a minute. Then he puts the worm in a box and keeps him there
