  1. In the year of the Famine this district was thickly populated at that time. And in that year the people were got dead on the side of the road with bits of grass in their mouth. One day in that year a man was going along the road on horse back and he saw about forty people in the fields and they eating grass and nettles. At night the people used to go out and eat the farmers turnips and mangles and raw cabbage. Then at that time hundreds went to other countries. The rotting of the potatoes that caused that. The potatoes rotted in the pits. It was rain that rotted the potatoes in this district. The man that saw the people eating the grass and nettles was Paddy McGee's father and he died eating grass after three weeks.
