- Long ago the people of this locality had many practices that they did when they were milking. Most of these practices are now extinct.
When the cows were being "put in" for the first time in winter they were always put in on a dry evening as it was considered unlucky to put them in on a wet evening.
When they were being milked the first stream from each teat was spilt on the ground.
The sign of the Cross was always made on the cow's flank with the next stream of milk.
After the milking, the milker made the sign of the Cross on the cow's udder with the last stream of milk.
When the cow was about to calve the sign of the Cross was made on her with holy water.
