The Irish and French stayed on Ballinamuck hill because the English met them there and the bog is on the other side. There were about ninty eight officers fighting at Ballinamuck. The Irish and French fought on Shanmullagh Hill. The Battle of Ballinamuck lasted for about three hours. The French did not give up early in the battle. They fought through the whole battle. Any of the Croppies that got away went. The British showed no mercy to them.
    The Croppies that were captured were hanged or killed. There were no French killed. There were about two thousand English killed. The Irish were buried in Merryman's fields. There are no bushes growing on the graves.
