He continues like this placing the handfuls as tightly to each other as possible until he gets as far as the ladder.
He then starts at the barge again this time lapping the end of the handfuls down on the first row so as not to have a hallow between the rows.
He proceeds like this up between the barge and the ladder until he comes to the top of the house or better known as the rigging here he doesnt roll the handfuls he just places them across the rigging stretching one half of it on the front of the house and the other down on the back keeping between the ladder and the wall.
He secures this straw placed across the rigging with scollops.
He places two or three scollops across this newly put on straw and two or three more which he bends into the shape of a steeple he does this by striking them tightly with a mallet in the centre and twisting so as to avoid breaking them.
He drops those bended scollops(continues on next page)
