- On the lands of Prospect formerly the property of Major Eyre and recently divided amongst the local people there is one of those so called fairy forts. It is situated about a mile from the village of Ballycumber and commands a view of the railway station.It is of the circular type with growth of trees around it. As Ballycumber is about ten miles from Athlone, it could be of Danish origin as the Vikings genearlly made their raids from the Shannon which runs through Athlone.There is another of the same kind on the land of Mr. S. Quinn Moorock, It is in a backward place and can barely be seen from the Moate-Athlone road.There is another of the these forts on the lands of Castletown or Castlearmstrong formerly the domain of Mr. W.
