The snow remained on the ground for nine weeks and when it abated the farmers went in search of their sheep. Contrary to their expectations only a few were dead and many of them were covered with and a tiny hole made for breathing. How they lived in this way the people could not understand, because they expected to find them dead from hunger and cold.

  2. Mary. McPartland, of Kilduff was a poetess. She composed many poems and songs. About half-a-mile from Dowra on the main Dowra - Drumkeeran road she lived.
In her seventhieth year she died about four years ago. The following is a song composed by her at a dance in a neighbour's house.
    The song is thus -
It's of as grand a concert ever yet was seen,
It was held in Pat. McGuire's house not far from Dowra Green.
The young men from the country round they came both great and small.
