- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)In the Corcashel fort near the "Fairies chair" is the place where children used to be buried for rickets. In this fort there is an ivy tree growing to which people came long journeys to get leaves from it to put on corns. Carrickmore Fort belonged to the Humphrey's family. Some one told them that the white-thorn trees growing in it were unlucky so they cut these trees and planted it with various kinds of firs. Long ago many people had many superstitious beliefs about forts. It was considered unlucky to hear the cuckoo for the first time in a fort. Birds which built nests in the forts should not be interfered with as they ate the cut worm. Rosaleen Johnston
