There is a superstition that the "witch-woman" could take away the butter. It has been known that after churning for hours no butter came on the milk. Buttermilk is used for making bread, for drinking and for feeding calves and pigs. - I have a churn at home. It is between two and three feet high. It is about one and a half feet wide at the top and about a few inches wider at the bottom. The sides of it are round. The churn is about fourteen or fifteen years old.
