    The groom then goes for her and takes her home again.
    As recently as twenty years ago it was customary to race for a bottle. A pair of the best horsement at the feast raced a mile whoever reached the house first got a bottle of whiskey. This was a most exciting performance and added to the general fun.
    Wives often sat behind their husbands in the good old days when jaunting cars were scarce and the country full of gallant horses and men who could ride them.
