Ar an leathanach seo

  1. There are two forges in the parish of Denn. Tom Smyth and Connor Reilly are the black-smiths. Their people were smiths many years before them. One forge is situated at a crossroads near Ballyjamesduff and the other is about three miles from the town, on a hill.
    The forge is a large-sized shed. The roof is made of galvanized iron. The door is a large one so that horses could go in easily. There is one fireplace in it. The bellows is made of wood and leather. It is worked with a handle that is moved up and down.
    The smith used an anvil, a hammer, a chisel, a cutter, pinchers and other implements. He shoes horses and asses. He repairs farm implements such as ploughs, harrows, spades, shovels and axes. He often shoes horses in the open air.
    Smiths were supposed to banish rats. They were always looked upon as being very strong. There are not
