I rambled round in splendour for three long years or more
Until I took a notion for to see my native shore,
One night in Cork as I lay drunk, I foolishly did say
'Twas I who killed the Ganger on the Western Railway.

I was quickly apprehended, and soon afterwards was tried,
Before a judge and jury, I was condemned to die,
