  1. In olden times every boy made his own toys as no one could afford to buy expensive toys, there were tops and slings and shot guns were all made at home; the sling was a piece of leather with a string in each end and put a stone on it, boys could often kill birds with it.
A shot gun was made by boring a hole through a strong piece of Elderberry tree and put a stone in it, and then shooting it out with a thinner piece of road[?], a lot of boys made their own pipes much the same way when they took a notion of their first smoke; girls made some nice rag dolls from a piece of linen, making the body first, then the legs and arms, then stuff it with saw dust, then getting some coloured thread and making nose, eyes, and mouth.
Sometimes the girls would string roundberries and make necklaces, a nice rag doll would last a long time.
