- As a result of the machine made toys imported from Germany in large numbers, for the past twenty years, toys made at home by children are almost things of the past.
During the Christmas seasons of over twenty years ago, the children made horns form empty bottles, by plasing a glass of water and a spoonful of salt in a bottle, and placing it on a line of turf-embers until the bottom dropped out.
Christmas horns were also made from the horns of cattle, and from branches of the Elder tree.
Spinning tops are made by having a piece of wood fitted into the hole, in the centre of a wooden spool from which the cotton was removed, the piece of wood about one inch longer at each end, which is placed through the opening of the spool.
