  1. My Home District
I live in the town land of Killann in the parish of Killann. The parish is situated in the Barony of Clonkee. There are seven families living in the town land and the number of people amount to thirty. At present one name is not more common than another but for generations past the most common name was O’Reilly. The houses are all small thatched ones. Most of them consist of a kitchen and two bed rooms . The town land gets its name from St. Anne’s old church, the ruins of which are still to be seen. There is only one old man over seventy living in it. He does not know Irish but he is a good story-teller in English. His name is John O’Connor, Killann, Shercock
The houses were far more numerous
