- (continued from previous page)Lime. There was a lime kiln nearly in every farm long ago. They used to burn the lime with culm. They used to have a wall around the lime kiln and they would break the lime stones and put them into the lime kiln. They used to have a hole about a foot and a half long and two feet high and the lime used to go out in the hole. Then they would set fire to the culm and the stones would burn. They used to put some of it out in the fields for manure.
