    is called "labouring."
    When the stalks are about a foot high the second mould is applied. Care must be taken that the stalks are not injured, because of they were they would not grow.
    In July the stalks are sprayed to prevent blight. There is no more trouble with the potatoes until September comes, then they are dug and are picked by the children. They are placed in a pit with sods and soil over them, and they provide a valuable winter food for the family.
