  1. Evictions were very numerous long ago. When the people were not able to pay the rent, they were evicted from their homes buy the landlords.
    At times the people united and formed societies to oppose the unjust laws, and heavy rents. From time, to time, they succeeded in gaining some little concessions by their agitation.
    About thirty years ago the power of the landlords was broken.
