    A Long time ago there lived in Water Lane, Ballina three women who earned their living by washing.

  2. About five miles east of Ballina on the Bonniconlan road there is a large hill called the Fairy's Hill. On the side of this hill, there was a short river. Once when a man was drawing water from the river he saw the side of the hill open and a man on horse-back came out of the hill, the other man saluted him but he did not speak but disappeared again into the other side of the hill, and the same man was never seen afterwards. From that time on that hill is called the "fairy hill".
