    Long ago there lived two children whose names were Finnala and Gras in a forest in Germany.

    Long ago there lived two children whose names were Finnola and Gras in a forest in Germany. They were very fond of rambling along a stream. One day they went farther than usual, and they came to a big grey rock over which grew an elm tree.
    The children were surprised when they saw a black squirrel going in through a tiny door in the tree. The door opened again and a grey squirrel went in.
    The next moment the door opened and a little man came out and stood on the top of the rock. The children said they would be delighted. The little man brought them in through the door and mounted them on two horses he told them to go straight on and not to stop to look
