  1. Many cures and remedies for different ailment are known locally - mostly in the country.
    A remedy for a pain in the back is to stick two ends of a bramble briar in the ground and stoop under it.
    Ointment to cure a burn is made from bramble leaves the fried yolk of an egg and unsalted butter.
    Nettle stings and bee stings are said to be a cure for rheumatism.
    A cure for warts is to take nine straws from a thatch. Eight of the straws are tied with the ninth. Then the biggest wart is bled and the straws are touched with the blood. Then walk to a cross roads and drop the straws and go another way. The warts will then disappear.
