  1. Summerhill is so named because it is warm both in Summer and Winter.
    Steelawn means the narrow strip of land.
    Castlemague means the windy castle.
    Clocar gets its name from the stony ground that is in this district.
    Carrowmore means the big land quarter.
    Lackan means a hillside.
    Carbad gets its name because King Awley rode down that road in his carriage.
    Mullaghnacroise means the hill of the cross. The monks were going to build an abbey there but there was too much bother and noise so they decided to build it beside the shore and before leaving they put the sign of the cross on the hill and ever since it is called Mullaghnacroise.
