  1. Were there fairs at the Cross? Aye surely. I drove cattle there for Craig myself. How long ago? It must be nigh on three score years.
    Young (the Landlord) paid "stann" men to come there to keep it going but Stranorlar (Stranorlar "bet" them. Aye and in Killygordon too but McGroarty put them down because they were making too much "noise". I heard me father tell of a good one that happened at Kelly's public house on a fair morning.
    He had three brave men staying wi' him for the fair. Very early he went for a bucket to the pump and who was sitting on the wall but the Revenue. Kelly heard on Revenue say to the other "We got the "quid" (hint) that the Collins are to be at the fair. When Kelly returned he mentioned the "Revenue" remark to the three stranger who
