  1. James McLoughlin of Tievebrack is a poet. He published a small book of long poems about forty years ago. The title was "the Romance of Con Tinney and other Poems". The poems tell of happenings in the Finn Valley between 150 and 200 years ago. James McLoughlin is still a fresh man.
    The following poem entitled "The Rector's Ride" is, according to James, "a faithful history of the famous race between Rev. W. Spence, former rector of Donaghmore, and Mr. Thomas Russell, Clady, from an account of an eyewitness".
    'Twas on a sultry summer's day
    An aged man, whose locks were grey
    Did sit him by the King's high-way
    His weary limbs to rest
    A sportive youth was passing by
    Whose frolics caught the old man's eye
    And signing to him to come nigh
    He thus the lad addressed
