  1. Home-made bread is more generally used than baker's bread.
    There seems to be a great liking for what is called Indian bread.
    This is made by mixing indian meal with flour. The proportion is about 1:4.
    Potato-bread is fairly common also.
    Oaten-meal bread is made in nearly every house.
    It is supposed to be very sustaining. water is used instead of milk for Kneading.
    Some housekeepers bake every day while others bake on two days of the week only.
    Baked cakes are always called "scones". sometimes pronounced "scauns"
    The top of the cake is marked with a cross to help it rise.
