  1. marriages mostly take place between Christmas and Ash Wednesday. They are in a hurry before lent.
    There is a rhyme which describes the lucky and unlucky days to get married –
    Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday the best day of all
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for crosses
    Saturday for nothing at all
    There is no particular belief about shrove Tuesday in this district. The bride to be usually gets money as a dowry.
    About this district there is nobody who remembers any marriages taken place in this district outside the church.
    It was a custom for the bride-to-be to wear –
    Something old
    Something new
    Something borrowed
    and something blue.
    It was a custom for the man and woman to run away from a friends house. Somebody went then and told the bride-to-be’s father and he went and brought
