  1. Wakes of the Parish
    Celia King of Ballygurrane described Delia Boyle's wake in Carrabrowne. She said the corpse was laid out on the long low table raised up on six chairs besides one of the kitchen walls. Ropes were tied to the rafters over the corpse and from the ropes hung sheets on three sides to form curtains. There was also another sheet on top which formed a ceiling. The corpse could only be see on one side. Persons kneeling down could not see it either because it was raised up about five feet above the floor. This wake took place about twenty seven years ago.
    Up to about thirty years ago games were played at wakes in this parish. They
