- Wakes of My Parish
Celia King of Bally-gurrane described Delia Boyle’s wake in Carrabrown. She said the corpse was laid out on a long low table raised up on six chairs beside one of the kitchen walls. Ropes were tied to the rafters over the corpse and from the ropes hung sheets on three sides to form curtains. There was also another sheet on top which formed a ceiling. The corpse could only be seen on one side. Persons kneeling down could not see it either because it was raised about five feet above the floor. This wake took place about twenty seven years ago.
