If the driving was furious going it was more so coming home, and it was not an uncommon thing for horses to fall from weakness and over-work on these occasions. The drivers were generally the worse of drink, and so was every man in the crowd as well. I remember once a couple of cars coming to grief coming round Doherty's turn. The belly-band of one outfit broke, and that car load was thrown on the road, the next party took a short turn to avoid those that had fallen, with the result that horse was thrown, and the car overturned. A couple of the party on each car got bad wounds.
