    a Welsh Harper was called on to play a selection of Welsh airs. When he had done, he was given a great ovation and the host asked his Irish guest if he ever heard music like that in Ireland. He replied, "Oh, yes, and much superior music, though that indeed was good." His host replied that there wasnt a harper in Ireland the equal of the Welshman. Bets of £100 aside were made by the two gentlemen, and it was arranged that a meeting should take place between the harpers in Dublin. So great was the excitement over the matter, that permission was got to hold the contest in the Old Irish House of Commons.
    The Welsh harper was given the honour of playing first, and when he had finished, many, in fact the majority there, Irish as well as Welsh, believed that he could not be beaten. Only Duignan's followers from Leitrim believed their favourite could not be beaten. When he entered
